The engineer goby, scientific name Pholidichthys Leucotaenia is a peaceful fish. Their minimum tank size is 80 gallons. Engineer gobies can grow up to 1’ and can live up to 11 years. Engineer gobies are omnivores and should be fed frozen foods such as brine or mysis shrimp. Engineer gobies can be kept alone but are best kept in pairs or in small groups. Engineer gobies are reef safe, they will not bother coral or invertebrates. Engineer gobies get their name from their capability of creating tunnels and burrows. If there is sand in the tank engineers will grab the sand with their mouth and move it out of their way, eventually creating caverns and burrows for them to use as housing. Engineer gobies are also referred to as the convict goby.
