The four stripe damsel, scientific name Dascyllus Melanurus, is a semi-aggressive fish. Their minimum tank size is 30 gallons. Four stripe damsels can grow up to 3 ¼” and can live up to 6 years. Four stripe damsels are carnivores and should be fed small pieces of frozen foods such as brine or mysis shrimp. Four stripe damsels can be kept alone, in pairs or in groups, as long as there is adequate space and rock work provided. If there is only a pair they should be added to the tank at the same time. Although damsels are schooling fish they often bicker so having more group members will help lessen the aggression towards each other. Damsels are reef safe, they will not bother coral or invertebrates. Damsels will find crevices to sleep in at night and during the day can be seen swimming throughout the tank. The four stripe damsel is also referred to as the blacktail dascyllus, the blacktail damselfish, or blacktail humbug.
