The lawnmower blenny, scientific name Salarias Fasciatus, is a peaceful fish. Their minimum tank size is 30 gallons. They can grow up to 5” and can live up to 8 years. Lawnmower blennies are herbivores and will require algae present in the tank for feeding. If there is no algae present on the rocks or glass then algae should be supplemented. These blennies are known for eating hair algae in reef tanks. Lawnmower blennies should be kept one per tank. Blennies that are similar size and shape will normally fight because of food security, housing spaces or territorial issues. Lawnmower blennies are reef safe and will not bother coral or invertebrates. They will often be seen eating algae off the rocks and glass or sitting on the rocks and they will find a hole in a rock to sleep in. The lawnmower blenny is also called the sailfin blenny, the algae blenny, the jewelled rockskipper blenny, or the rock blenny.
