The blue gudgeon, scientific name Ptereleotris Heteroptera, is a peaceful fish. This fish has a minimum tank size of 30 gallons. Their maximum size is 5” and they can live up to 5 years. Blue gudgeon dartfish are canivores and should be fed small pieces of frozen foods like brine shrimp. Blue gudgeons will be very shy and hide more if they are kept alone and are recommended to be kept in pairs, or if possible small or even large groups. They can be mixed with other types of dartfish. Blue gudgeon dartfish are reef safe, they will not bother coral or invertebrates. Blue gudgeon dartfish sleep in crevices in the rocks or in barnacles. They will sometimes dig a tunnel in the sand to get underneath the rock. During the day they will be seen swimming in the tank, if they are comfortable. If they get frightened, they will quickly run back to their house. A tight-fitting lid is recommended as dartfish will jump when frightened. The blue gudgeon dartfish is also referred to as the blacktail goby or the blacktail dartfish.
