The blue fin damsel, scientific name Neoglyphidodon Melas, is a semi-aggressive fish. Their minimum tank size is 40 gallons. Blue fin damsels can grow up to 7” and can live up to 6 years. Blue fin damsels are omnivores and should be fed small pieces of frozen food such as brine or mysis shrimp. Blue fin damsels can be kept alone, in pairs or in groups, as long as there is adequate space and rock work provided. If there is only a pair they should be added to the tank at the same time.  Although damsels are schooling fish they often bicker so having more group members will help lessen the aggression towards each other.  Damsels are reef safe, they will not bother coral or invertebrates. Damsels will find crevices to sleep in at night and during the day can be seen swimming throughout the tank. The bluefin damsel is also referred to as the black damsel, bowtie damsel, yellow-back damsel and the royal damsel.
