The spotted gill cardinal, scientific name Ostorhinchus Chrysopomus, is a peaceful fish. Their minimum tank size is 30 gallons. The spotted gill cardinal has a maximum size of 4” and can live up to 15 years. Spotted gill cardinals are carnivores and should be fed small pieces of frozen food such as mysis or brine shrimp. Cardinals are schooling fish. It is possible to keep them alone, in pairs, or in groups. As long as there is adequate space keeping an odd or even number will not matter for these fish. Spotted gill cardinals are reef safe with caution. They will not bother coral but they may go after small ornamental shrimp that can fit in their mouth. If they are comfortable, spotted gill cardinals will be seen swimming near the top of the water column in the open during the day.
