The sailfin blenny, scientific name Astrosalaris Fuscus, is a peaceful fish. Their minimum tank size is 30 gallons and their maximum size is 4 ½”. Sailfin blennies can live up to 5 years. Sailfin blennies are herbivores and will eat algae found on the glass, rocks and other parts of the tank. If no algae is present in the tank they should be supplemented with algae sheets or pellets. Sailfin blennies should be kept in singles but can be kept with other blenny species. Blennies that are similar size and shape will normally fight because of food security, housing spaces or territorial issues. Sailfin blennies are reef safe and do not bother coral and invertebrates. Sailfin blennies will find a spot to sit in the tank and will find crevices in rocks to sleep in. During the day they can be seen sitting on the rocks or picking at algae. The sailfin blenny is also referred to as the Black Widow blenny, Dusky Blenny, Brown Coral Blenny, Black Blenny, Highfin Blenny, or Brown Combtooth Blenny.
