The red angler frogfish, scientific name Annetarius Sp. is a semi-aggressive fish. Their minimum tank size is 30 gallons. Red angler frogfish can grow up to 6” and can live up to 20 years. They are carnivores and should be fed frozen meaty foods such as mysis shrimp. Frogfish prey upon small fish and other small creatures in the wild so getting them to eat frozen takes time and patience. Having them with other fish that eat frozen can help them learn to eat. Until they are steadily eating frozen they can be fed with fresh water guppies or shrimp. One guppy per week or 2 small shrimp every 3-4 days. Freshwater options are cheaper and the animal can survive in salt water long enough for the frogfish to find and eat. Supervision is recommended to ensure the other tank mates don’t attack the guppy/shrimp and it doesn’t go into overflows/pumps. Red angler frogfish can be kept singly in pairs or in groups as long as there is adequate food. They can also be kept with other scorpionfish/frogfish. Frogfish will be seen sitting on the ground most of the time but can swim to their prey if necessary. They will also hide in rocks to sleep at night.
