The purple dottyback, scientific name Pseudochromis Porphyreus, is an aggressive fish. They require a 30 gallon minimum tank size. Purple dottybacks can grow up to 3” and can live up to 5 years. Purple dottybacks are carnivores and should be fed small pieces of frozen shrimp such as mysis or brine. Purple dottybacks should be kept singly and will fight with all other dottybacks. Purple dottybacks are reef safe with caution. They will not bother coral but may prey upon shrimp. Purple dottybacks will be seen swimming in caves and throughout the rocks in the tank, at night they will find a crevice in the rocks to sleep in. Purple dottybacks are also referred to as magenta dottyback and the purple pseudochromis.
