Red Fromia starfish are a delicate and common species often seen in the hobby. Their scientific name is Fromia Milleporella but they are referred to as the fromia starfish. They are a part of the Goniasteridae family. Fromia starfish can grow up to a maximum size of 6” from tip to tip, under proper conditions they can live up to 10 years. Fromia starfish are omnivores and will eat microorganisms and detritus found in the tank. Fromia starfish will benefit from direct feedings of small pieces of mollusks, shrimp or flaked food. The food size should be sized appropriately for the size of starfish. Fromia starfish have a minimum tank size of 5 gallons if they are small enough. Once they get to a larger size (2.5-3”+) they should be moved to a larger system. Fromia starfish are peaceful and are both coral and invertebrate safe, they will often be seen on the sand, glass and rocks in the aquarium, looking for food. Along with all other starfish fromia starfish should be kept submerged under water at all times, during transit they should have as little time touching air as possible.
