Bumblebee Snails are one of the smaller snails found in the hobby but they are incredibly useful. Their scientific name is Pusiotoma Mendicaria but they are most often referred to as bumblebee snails due to their appearance. They are from the Buccinidae family. They will grow up to ½” in size and can live up to 2 years. Bumblebee snails can sometimes be seen “eating” a snail, but they will not go after healthy snails. These snails are most commonly known for being one of the only species that will eat vermitid snails. If there is no vermitid snails they will supplement their diet with detritus. They have a minimum tank size of 5 gallons. These snails are considered peaceful and are both coral and invertebrate safe. These snails prefer to stay on and under rocks and on the sand.
