The skunk cleaner shrimp is one of the most popular shrimp in the hobby. Their scientific name is Lysmata Amboinensis but they are often referred to as the skunk cleaner shrimp, or the scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp. This shrimp comes from the Hippolytidae family. Their maximum size is 2” and they can live up to 3 years. Skunk cleaner shrimp are omnivores that will scavenge food from the tank. They have a minimum tank size of 20 gallons and are considered peaceful. Skunk cleaner shrimp are both coral and invertebrate safe. Skunk cleaner shrimp are nocturnal and will be more active at night, during the day they can be seen hiding in the cracks and caves of rocks. Cleaner shrimp are popular for their fish cleaning skills. Skunk cleaner shrimp will pick at dead skin and parasites helping keep fish healthy.
