Nassarius Snails are fairly common throughout the aquarium trade. Their scientific name is Nassarius Vibex but they are often referred to as zombie snails. Nassarius snails come from the Nassariidae family. Their maximum size is 2” and they can live up to 3 years. They are omnivores that prefer to eat carrion, left over food, and detritus. These snails will not hurt any healthy animals, only when an animal has died will they smell them and come to eat their remains. Their minimum tank size is 5 gallons. These snails are considered peaceful and are both coral and invertebrate safe. Zombie snails prefer to stay buried in the sand, their syphons can sometimes be seen sticking out of the top of the sand, they use these siphons to smell their food, then emerge to the top of the sand bed to eat.
