The Gold Torch coral has long golden yellow polyps with blue tips. Torches are an LPS coral that are a part of the Euphyllia genus, their scientific name is Euphyllia Glabrescens. This specific torch is often referred to as the “Holy Grail Torch”. Torches are sometimes referred to as the pompom coral, or the trumpet coral.

They are considered an intermediate level coral making them well suited for any reef aquarium. Torches do not require but will benefit from feedings of coral food (reef roids), brine shrimp, and or mysis shrimp. Since they have long sweeping polyps, they are considered aggressive as these polyps can sting other corals. Multiple torches can be placed in a small area and will not harm each other. There should be a moderate water flow making sure the polyps are swaying gently but not being pushed too hard one way, and a moderate light setting to ensure the best condition for your torch. Torches should be placed in the lower to middle section of your tank.

Due to the similar appearance between torches and anemones, clown fish have been known to attempt to host from torches. This can irritate the coral and prohibit full polyp extension.
