The Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber is a delicate and common type of sea cucumber. Its scientific name is Holothuria Sp. but its often referred to as the tiger tail sea cucumber or the lollyfish. They come from the Holothuriidae family. They can grow up to 72 inches but it does not reach that size in captivity, 6 inches is more common with a maximum size in aquariums reaching 12-18”. The tiger tail sea cucumber can live up to 10 years. These animals are omnivores that will clean the sand, it cleans detritus, diatoms, and bacteria by eating the sand and filtering out the waste. The sand is undigested and defecated back into the tank, now clean. Their minimum tank size is 30 gallons due to their large appetite. Tiger tail sea cucumbers are peaceful and are both coral and invertebrate safe. Due to its delicate nature this cucumber should be kept with peaceful tank mates. Pump/Intake covers should also be placed in the tank to prevent the cucumber from going into them. These animals prefer to be on the sand bed and will often be seen underneath the rocks.
