The Red Acan is a part of the LPS category. It is often referred to as “Red Acan Lord” or “Red Acanthastrea”. The scientific name used to be Acanthastrea Lordhowensis but has recently been changed to Micromussa Lordhowensis. Acan’s do not require but will benefit from feedings of coral food (reef roids), brine shrimp and or mysis shrimp. In the wild Acans will normally eat during the night, but they can be trained to eat whenever you feed them. The Red Acan is considered an intermediate level coral and should be placed in the lower areas of your tank. Acan’s are best suited in a moderate to high light setting and a low to moderate water flow. If the Acan’s extended polyps are not seen for more than a few days (including in the night time and during direct feeding, and water parameters have been stable) then perhaps moving to a lower flow and/or less light setting will help.
