Abalone Snails are different than most snails in appearance, they have large fleshy tissue surrounding the outside of their shell. Their scientific name is Haliotis Cracherodii but they are sometimes referred to as the donkey ear abalone, or green abalone snail. Abalone snails are from the Haliotidae family. They are a large snail reaching up to 6” and can live up to 10 years. Abalone snails are strictly herbivores and should be supplemented with algae rocks if sufficient algae is not present in the tank. A minimum tank size of 40 gallons is recommended. These snails are extremely peaceful and are both coral and invertebrate safe. Abalone snails are nocturnal and they prefer to stay in and around the rocks and can sometimes be seen on the glass.
