Hunters Need Prey

Many of the beautiful marine animals we crave as tank inhabitants have specific dietary requirements. Some species will not eat frozen food willingly. Live food like copepods, isopods, amphipods and other water bugs can greatly increase your success in keeping difficult species. Most finfish will hunt pods if they are available.

The most effective and safest way to introduce them to or “seed” a tank with pods is to add live pods from a bottle. Various pod species are regularly available at your LFS. We have personally purchased about 10 products and now have an assortment of pod populations coexisting in our tank.

We can suggest… live apocalypse, brine, cyclops, mysis, rotifers, tigre, tisbe. Once introduced these tiny animals steadily reproduce and inhabit all kinds of places in your tank. As the pods become more stable the most attractive fish become a possibility.

P.S. if you add phytoplankton regularly after adding pods and turn up the temperature a degree or two the pods will breed and populate faster.

These fish live off of pods and will need a steady supply!
