Food Chain Links

Most have an idea what a food chain is… a food chain is a representation of how different life forms integrate together to form our world. The role of small organisms in the food chain is significant, despite their size. Small life forms have their own purposes even if we don’t see or understand them.

My point being, our desire to replicate nature in our aquariums means we should try to create a balanced food chain in our aquariums. We suggest you add the smallest organisms that float around in the ocean. (Phytoplankton!)

It’s common for people to feed only pellets or frozen food, but certain nutrients are only readily available in plant form. All though it is possible to survive on steaks you probably should eat your share of green stuff too. The adding of planktonic animals or food supplements can enhance your coral and other inhabitants’ life.

We have found great success by adding concentrated phytoplankton or spirulina regularly. Since we started adding phytoplankton everyday (in small doses) we haven’t lost a coral.

It is possible to buy it mixed in to brine shrimp. This means you don’t have to buy multiple products to get the benefit we are trying to explain. It can come mixed in with frozen food.
