Prices of everything are on the rise. The cost of certain pet items especially. One of our tricks to reduce certain costs is to use human seafood to feed our large marine fish and invertebrates. For the same price you can get 3x as much, or sometimes even up to 10x as much. For example, feeding starfish, crabs, anemones, fish, lobsters, shrimp. Pretty much anything that will eat Mysis will eat human grade shrimp too, you might just have to cut it up a bit. Personally, we prefer to handle human quality food as it lacks the odor that fish food has.
Seaweed is no different. Nori sheets can be quite costly if used every day. Human grade seaweed will come in much larger quantities at the grocery store than you will get at the pet store for the same price. Sometimes you have to be realistic about saving money. Lots of animals will require pet only foods, others don’t. Savings can add up!
